MOLDING THE CLAY OF CHANGE: TRANSFORMING TAILINGS INTO NUTRIENTS FOR REMEDIATION

Working with and using clay dates back to the beginning of human existence on Earth. Given our history using clay for everything from building materials to pottery, you might assume we know all there is to know about it. Not true. As an innovator, this is where we need your help.

Clay is a primary mineral found in oil sands. Once the oil has been separated, by-products like sand, water and clay are stored in tailings ponds. As an industry, our challenge is to bring new thinking and innovation to how we accelerate land and water reclamation of tailings ponds. And that means thinking about clay differently.

Collaborate with us

Our Environmental Technology Assessment Portal (E-TAP) provides an effective means to tap into the global environmental sector for solutions to current and future technology gaps and opportunities. If you have a technology idea you would like to submit on a non-confidential basis to COSIA for consideration then we invite you to submit your idea.

XPRIZE: Converting carbon into everyday products

The $20-million NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE is a global competition to develop breakthrough technologies that will convert CO2 emissions into valuable products like building materials, alternative fuels and other items that we use every day.

A unique global alliance

Our membership is responsible for over 90 per cent of the oil sands produced in Canada. Our member companies have signed our Charter and support our vision

Our Associate Member Program allows those who share the COSIA Vision, but are not oil sands producers, to work with our members.
